August 2019 Advocate of the Month

Our August 2019 Advocate of the Month is Pamela Jackson. Pam originally joined Legal Services Alabama as part of the Anniston Office, but has worked in the Huntsville Office since June of 2009 where she serves as Lead Attorney. Pam is one of LSA’s hardest working and most accomplished attorneys, and in August she demonstrated the important difference a lawyer can make in the life of a low income person.

In August, Pam helped an elderly woman living on her own, who was facing the garnishment of 25 percent of her wages. Pam helped the client file the paperwork to assert her constitutional right to protect her wages. With Pam’s help, this client was able to protect her meager income and continue to live on her own.

In another case, Pam helped a woman who was separated from her husband and was unable to afford her rent. With Pam’s help, the client was able to get time to move and relocate with dignity.

In one of Pam’s cases, she helped a client who had incorrectly had a judgment for a large medical bill entered against her. Pam began the case by having the court set the original aside. Afterward, Pam requested documentation regarding the debt, leading to the entire $18,000 bill being discharged.

Pam also helped three other low income workers protect their paycheck by having garnishments against them dismissed, and several tenants to negotiate resolutions to evictions. With Pam’s help, these individuals were able to deal with very difficult times in their lives.

Throughout the month of August, Pam illustrated exactly how big the difference LSA can make in the lives of the people we serve, and she made us all proud in doing so! Congratulations Pam, and keep up the good work!
