JOHN LEWIS FELLOWSHIP

Legal Services Alabama (LSA), is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. As a non-profit law firm, our mission is to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty.

In honor of LSA’s ongoing mission, the John Lewis Fellowship was established to support up to a full year of purposeful legal projects promoting the safety and wellbeing of low-income individuals.   This position will operate virtually and/or from one of LSA’s Regional Offices located in Anniston, Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Selma or Tuscaloosa.

The Fellowship seeks individuals with deep social and humanitarian concerns and a demonstrated willingness to devote their time and efforts to the betterment of society’s most vulnerable citizens. The John Lewis Fellow will work on various initiatives which will help identify and provide solutions to problems which have affected the poor and disadvantaged resulting from the COVID – 19 pandemic. Projects will focus on analyzing data and the effects on clients housing, safety, income, benefits, education and other goals established by the Fellow and mission of LSA.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of law school. Admission to Bar or willingness to sit for bar exam. Commitment to public interest law. Experience working with low-income population a plus.  Strong legal writing and communication skills.

• Salary $42,756

IT Help Desk Analyst I

Legal Services Alabama (LSA), is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. LSA seeks applications from qualified persons for an IT Help Desk Analyst I position.  This is a full-time position located at LSA’s headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama. 

The IT Help Desk Analyst I will report to the IT Director.  The IT Help Desk Analyst I will provide timely and reliable technical assistance and support to LSA Staff related computer systems, hardware and software.  Answer queries on basic technical issues, run diagnostic programs, implement solutions.  The IT Help Desk Analyst I will promote LSA’s mission, values and principles within the organization and the community. 

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in IT or related field preferred but not required. Two or more years of related experience.  Industry certifications preferred but not required. Ability to work timely and effectively, independently or as part of a team.  Must be able to travel.

Coordinating Project Attorney Alabama

Legal Services Alabama (LSA) is a statewide non-profit law firm that pursues its mission to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty. LSA seeks a Coordinating Project Attorney (CPA) to support our mission through its Rural Economic Improvement Project. This project is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation. The position maybe located in Montgomery or Birmingham.

The Coordinating Project Attorney hired for this position will organize and conduct legal clinics focusing on financial literacy, consumer and foreclosure problems in Alabama’s rural underserved areas. The CPA is responsible for distributing outreach materials, training and collaborating with community groups, businesses and pro bono attorneys. The CPA will provide legal representation in civil legal matters with a focus on consumer, housing, family and public benefits. 

Qualifications: Admitted to practice in the State of Alabama or willing to take necessary steps to be admitted to Alabama bar within 6 months of employment. Sensitivity towards low-income population. Experience in legal aid services or related substantive areas preferred. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Spanish language proficiency desirable.
