The local bank is pledging money to the community to offer rental relief aid in the time of COVID-19

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Legal Services Alabama has seen an increase in cases and concerns from Alabama renters. As the housing crisis continues to affect the state, Mobile residents are receiving financial support from Hancock Whitney Bank.

Hancock Whitney has pledged $90,000 in relief assistance to those in low- and moderate-income households who have experienced job loss, furlough, or a reduction in hours of work or pay due to the economic impacts of COVID-19. Funds are being divided among Legal Services Alabama, Lifelines Counseling Services and The United Way of Southwest Alabama.

LSA will receive $40,000 from Hancock Whitney to assist the organization in representing clients with housing and foreclosure issues throughout the Mobile region.

“The Mobile office is thrilled to partner with Hancock Whitney to provide legal representation for clients who have been impacted by COVID-19,” said Mobile Office Managing Attorney Ann Brown. “This grant will allow the Mobile office to assist clients in Mobile and Baldwin counties by providing an attorney who can represent clients in eviction actions. This service is critical in helping clients who might otherwise not be able to easily navigate the legal system. Our end goal is to help clients avoid becoming homeless.”
