Summer internship 2021

LSA is now hiring for our Summer 2021 Internship Program.

Seeking law students dedicated to serving low income communities.

Students outside of Alabama are encouraged to apply, as the Summer 2021 program will be remote.

Law student interns will assist LSA attorneys in representing clients, conducting legal research, drafting documents and memoranda, and factual investigations. Interns also participate in practice team meetings and other firmwide trainings and initiatives.

Law students may be assigned to a particular office and/or practice area.

Applicants are asked to express in their cover letter any preference for location (Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery, Anniston, Mobile) and area of law.

Interns typically work full-time work schedules for 6 week sessions.

LSA will offer a first half, second half and full summer schedule.

Project Manager

Legal Services Alabama, Inc. (LSA) is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. As a non-profit law firm, our mission is to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty.

LSA seeks applications from qualified persons for a Project Manager.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Advocacy, the Project Manager is responsible for the daily operations and coordination of project goals of various grants and specifically the LAEP grant project.  The Project Manager will oversee the mission of the LAEP Project to enhance and expand holistic legal services to older persons across the state.  The Project Manager will coordinate intake procedures to identify prospective clients and streamline services provided to clients through the Elder Law Helpline.  The Project Manager will oversee the development of educational materials and training for project partners and stakeholders.  The Project Manager will oversee outreach for older persons at locations in underserved areas. The Project Manager will monitor LSA staff training and collaboration with community groups, businesses, and pro bono attorneys. 

Qualifications:

JD is preferred or must have a bachelor’s degree in related field of business, logistics, or management.  Significant project management experience required.   

Experience with non-profits or low-income population preferred.

Must be self-motivated and organized.  Ability to work timely and effectively, independently and as part of a team.  Must be able to travel.

Staff Attorney – Montgomery, Alabama

Legal Services Alabama (LSA), is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. LSA seeks applications from qualified attorneys committed to supporting our mission. 

This is a full-time position located in our Montgomery Regional Office. The attorney will provide services primarily in Lee, Chambers, Tallapoosa and Russell counties.

The attorney will provide community outreach and civil legal representation in family law, housing, consumer protection, public benefits, unemployment compensation and other priorities established by the Board of Directors. 

Qualifications:

Admitted to practice in the State of Alabama or willing to take necessary steps to be admitted to Alabama bar within 6 months of employment. Sensitivity towards low-income population.

Spanish language proficiency desirable.
