DATA ANALYST PROGRAMMER I

LSA seeks applications from qualified persons for a Data Analyst Programmer I. This is a full-time position.  LSA’s headquarters is in Montgomery, Alabama.  Remote work is possible.

Under the general supervision of the IT Director, the Data Analyst Programmer I will work with large data sets (case management system records, court data, and publicly available data sources) to build informative reports, search for trends, and answer business questions for the organization. Collaborate with IT Director, Director of Advocacy, and Managing Attorney for Client Access to develop these reports. Work with GIS / mapping software and Business Intelligence software to facilitate the development of actionable information for the organization.  Develop internal forms and applications for the organization to automate and streamline manual processes. Provide documentation on reports and applications developed, both for IT and the organization. The Data Analyst Programmer I will promote LSA’s mission, values and principles within the Regional offices, the organization as a whole and the community.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant field required. Experience with non-profits and low-income population preferred. At least three (3) years of related experience required. Must be self-motivated and organized.

LSA JOHN LEWIS LEGAL FELLOWSHIP

In honor of LSA’s ongoing mission, the John Lewis Fellowship was established to support up to a full year of purposeful legal projects promoting the safety and wellbeing of low-income individuals.  This position will operate virtually and/or from one of LSA’s Regional Offices located in Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Selma, or Tuscaloosa.

This year’s John Lewis Fellowship is made possible through funds awarded by ADECA.

LSA seeks individuals with deep social and humanitarian concerns and a demonstrated willingness to devote their time and efforts to the betterment of society’s most vulnerable citizens. The John Lewis Fellow will focus on providing legal representation to clients who are facing homelessness and the ancillary problems created by homelessness in education, benefits, family violence, collections and other goals established by the Fellow and mission of LSA.   

Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to practice in the State of Alabama. Spanish language proficiency desirable.

CONTRACT ATTORNEY – CHEROKEE, DEKALB, ETOWAH, ALABAMA

Legal Services Alabama, Inc. (LSA) is a statewide non-profit law firm that pursues its mission to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty. 

LSA seeks to contract with one or more Attorneys to provide legal services to help prevent homelessness in Cherokee, Dekalb and Etowah counties in Alabama.  The contract is expected to remain in effect for one year but may be renewable for a longer term subject to funding availability.  

This project is sponsored by a grant through ADECA. 

To be considered, the proposing attorney must be admitted to practice in the State of Alabama. Other evaluation factors (to be considered equally) will include expertise and experience with Alabama public benefit and housing law, knowledge of the area and housing-related challenges.

Case Manager – Birmingham Alabama

Legal Services Alabama, Inc. (LSA) is a statewide non-profit law firm that pursues its mission to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty. 

LSA seeks to employ a Case Manager who will assist clients through funds awarded through the City of Birmingham.  This position is expected to last approximately one year. Under the Managing Attorney’s general supervision, the Case Manager will determine client eligibility, develop and provide a comprehensive plan, implementation and evaluation of clients who qualify for assistance.    

The Case Manager will help with intake, return phone calls, conduct screening and file management. This position requires flexibility, attention to detail and deadlines, organizational skills, strong computer skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and take the initiative. The Case Manager will work with other team members to develop goals and timelines for the successful implementation of the project. The Case Manager will comply with LSA’s mission, values, and principles within the regional office, the organization, and the community.

Qualifications:

Experience with non-profits and low-income population preferred.

A one-year certificate from college program or technical school or commensurate experience preferred.

Summer internship 2021

LSA is now hiring for our Summer 2021 Internship Program.

Seeking law students dedicated to serving low income communities.

Students outside of Alabama are encouraged to apply, as the Summer 2021 program will be remote.

Law student interns will assist LSA attorneys in representing clients, conducting legal research, drafting documents and memoranda, and factual investigations. Interns also participate in practice team meetings and other firmwide trainings and initiatives.

Law students may be assigned to a particular office and/or practice area.

Applicants are asked to express in their cover letter any preference for location (Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery, Anniston, Mobile) and area of law.

Interns typically work full-time work schedules for 6 week sessions.

LSA will offer a first half, second half and full summer schedule.

Project Manager

Legal Services Alabama, Inc. (LSA) is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. As a non-profit law firm, our mission is to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty.

LSA seeks applications from qualified persons for a Project Manager.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Advocacy, the Project Manager is responsible for the daily operations and coordination of project goals of various grants and specifically the LAEP grant project.  The Project Manager will oversee the mission of the LAEP Project to enhance and expand holistic legal services to older persons across the state.  The Project Manager will coordinate intake procedures to identify prospective clients and streamline services provided to clients through the Elder Law Helpline.  The Project Manager will oversee the development of educational materials and training for project partners and stakeholders.  The Project Manager will oversee outreach for older persons at locations in underserved areas. The Project Manager will monitor LSA staff training and collaboration with community groups, businesses, and pro bono attorneys. 

Qualifications:

JD is preferred or must have a bachelor’s degree in related field of business, logistics, or management.  Significant project management experience required.   

Experience with non-profits or low-income population preferred.

Must be self-motivated and organized.  Ability to work timely and effectively, independently and as part of a team.  Must be able to travel.

Staff Attorney – Montgomery, Alabama
