LSA Celebrates a Powerful Gathering at 6th Annual Justice, Fairness & Hope Awards Luncheon

Legal Services Alabama (LSA) is proud to announce the resounding success of its 6th Annual Justice, Fairness & Hope Awards Luncheon, held on May 7, 2025, at the RSA Activity Center in Montgomery. The event brought together legal and community leaders from across the state to celebrate the pursuit of justice and honor individuals and organizations whose work exemplifies LSA’s core values.

Attendees left inspired not only by the award recipients’ achievements but also by the collective reminder that meaningful change is possible when dedicated individuals and institutions work together.

The event served as both a celebration and a call to action—reinforcing LSA’s mission to ensure that all Alabamians, regardless of income, have access to legal representation and a voice in the justice system.

This year’s luncheon was made even more meaningful by the presence of former U.S. Senator Doug Jones, who received the H. Tommy Wells Access to Justice Award. Senator Jones’ lifetime of public service and commitment to civil rights, including his landmark prosecution of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing case, made his participation a powerful and inspiring moment for all in attendance.

Also recognized were the Montgomery Volunteer Lawyers Program and Montgomery County District Court Judges, who were jointly honored with the Taze Shephard Pro Bono Fairness Award for their ongoing dedication to ensuring access to legal assistance for those in need. The Bridge Crossing Jubilee received the John Lewis Hope Award for its tireless work preserving and promoting the legacy of the civil rights movement through education and community engagement.

The annual luncheon supports the LSA John Lewis Fellowship Program, which provides opportunities for recent law graduates committed to public interest advocacy in Alabama. Since its inception in 2019, the program has helped cultivate the next generation of justice-driven attorneys in honor of the late Congressman John Lewis.

The 2025 event was supported by generous sponsors including Alabama Power Foundation, BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama, Bradley Law Firm, PNC Bank, Maynard Nexsen and the Steelcase Foundation.
