LSA recently welcomed Ashley Miller, Paralegal, to its Mobile Office on March 25, 2019. A native of Mobile, AL, Miller volunteered for LSA in 2018 and has a passion for helping the underserved.
A graduate of Faulkner State Community College, Miller earned an associate degree in Applied Science- Paralegal in 2007 and specializes in Real Estate and Business Law. Miller is also certified in the following: Licensed Alabama REALTOR®- Career Academy of Real Estate (2017), Certified Signing Agent Expert- Loan Signing System (2017) and Commissioned Alabama Notary Public (2017). She is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), Mobile Association of REALTORS®, National Notary Association, and the American Association of Notaries.
For Miller, helping the community is of personal importance.
“I came to LSA while I was working as a Realtor to get more experience,” Miller said. “I want to be able to utilize my experiences to help in the community – where help is needed … I have a heart to help the lower income – who usually do not know what to do, who to call, or how to handle a situation.”
Miller will work alongside a Staff Attorney in the Mobile Office on its “Africatown Land Loss Project,” which will offer probate services and community education in such areas as last Will and testament, estate planning, heirship affidavits, and foreclosure prevention among others, to residents of the historical town. A civil legal clinic for the project was held April 13 inside the Robert L Hope Community Center in Mobile.
“Any experience that I already have – education and knowledge can help. Being able to help someone save their property, help someone get a lien taken off their property … or help someone who doesn’t know anything about [liens],” Miller said. “I am able to look and see what is against that deed and that property …”
Miller stated she enjoys working with the Mobile Office and that LSA is a great training ground for those considering public interest work.
“If someone has a passion and knowledge to be able to help people, they should,” Miller said. “The gratification of being able to help someone is priceless. There is sometimes a whole other community that might need a little help with a class or bankruptcy in order to get to a place where they can get a mortgage (for example). Sometimes a client may feel at the end of their rope or they don’t know what to do or how to get there, but there are those of us who do want to help, and we truly do have a passion to make sure their needs are being taken care of.”
A single mother, Miller stated she enjoys spending her spare time with her big family. Miller’s daughter – Asia’h, is a Hollywood actress.
“I love spending time with my children,” Miller said. “I love being a mom!”
