March Advocate of the Month

Staff Attorney Valynda Jerome-Williams from our Mobile office has made a big impact on the lives of recent clients seeking help with their financial security. From public benefits to wage garnishment, Jerome-Williams’ hard work has helped many families find much needed security.

In two cases, Jerome-Williams worked with single mothers dealing with debt collections. In one of these cases the single mother was being sued by a creditor for over $4,000. The creditor alleged that the client electronically signed a credit application online with a 300% interest rate. Thanks to Jerome-Williams’ representation, after trial the court ruled in favor of the client – saving her from a costly judgement.

In a similar case, a widow living on a fixed income discovered she was being held accountable for over $3,000 in a collections case. The client had never heard of the creditor and suspected fraudulent use of her credit. Jerome-Williams had the debt deemed uncollectable in court. The client was very concerned how she would afford the debt on her budget and was relieved by the court’s verdict.

Jerome-Williams’ also helped a domestic violence survivor in a divorce action. Not only did she secure the divorce with protection from abuse language, but the client was also granted control of the marital residence, possession of their newest vehicle, backpay for household expenses, the family dog, and the use of her maiden name. The client is thankful for the fresh start.

For all of this and so much more, Valynda Jerome-Williams is our March 2021 Advocate of the Month. Thank you, Valynda, for all you do!
