Former Criminal Attorney Joins LSA’s Montgomery Office

LSA recently welcomed Mobile native and former criminal law attorney Spencer Phillips, to its Montgomery Office on Aug. 5, 2019. Having a varied background in corporate America, working as a Governance and Compliance Associate with Capitol One Financial, Phillips also has experience in the U.S. Armed Forces, corrections, and as a solo practitioner.

Bringing integrity and compassion to his role as Staff Attorney, Phillips describes himself as being, “team client.”

“I like helping people, I like getting a problem solved,” He said. “It doesn’t matter what I personally think – I have to defend my client, which is my credo. LSA gives me an opportunity to help people who can’t afford legal representation.”

The legal profession, Phillips believes, is a calling.

“I think I was born to be an attorney – I carried a briefcase in high school,” Phillips chuckled. “I went to the military, then undergraduate school and finally law school. I worked as a Correctional and Probation officer for just a little bit while waiting to take the bar. I took the bar and then moved to Virginia.”

Phillips believes his professional background will be a long-term asset to the organization. For Phillips, LSA is a “good fit.”

“My hope is that I can take all that I have learned and help people,” Phillips said. “I like to think I am easy to talk to and that I know my audience.”

An avid reader, Phillips also enjoys traveling, watching professional basketball and football, working out, and photography in his spare time. He currently serves as legal counsel for his place of worship, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, in Mobile, AL.

Phillips began practicing law in 2012. Phillips earned his undergraduate degree from the University of South Alabama and his J.D. from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, LA.
