LSA Hires Elder Law Attorney for Birmingham Office

LSA Hires Elder Law Attorney for Birmingham Office

LSA welcomed Faye Doss Suggs as Staff Attorney to its Birmingham Office on June 11. Suggs, who has worked for private defense firms, interned for a Circuit Court Judge in the Birmingham area and LSA’s Birmingham Office in 2013, currently serves as the Office’s Elder Law Attorney.

With a passion for helping people, Suggs was raised by her grandparents and often shadowed her grandfather, who was also an attorney.

“My grandfather did a lot of estate probate work, so I grew up seeing a lot of elderly people who needed assistance,” Suggs said, who graduated from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law in 2015. “I met a lot of folks who really didn’t have family around. [Helping the elderly] is something I am comfortable with and it appeals to me.”

Being selected for Law Review and Moot Court as a law student and graduating at the top of her class, Suggs believes her passion and skillset will be an asset to LSA overall.  Suggs will serve Jefferson County’s underserved 60 and over population with Powers-of-Attorney, Wills, and Evictions among others.

“I just want to be able to help people with their problems,” Suggs said. “I’ve really always wanted to work in public service. Research and writing is right up my alley. I do not want to use my talents to be self-serving; I really want to use my talents to help the people who cannot afford [legal services].”

For Suggs, she believes she can make “more of a difference” as a lawyer.

“It is already so difficult for people who can’t afford legal help to find good legal help, unless it is somewhere like Legal Services [Alabama],” she said. “On a day-to-day basis with tangible problems … I like the type of assistance you can provide by being an attorney. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to be here.”

Suggs graduated with a bachelor’s degree in History from Birmingham’s Samford University (2012). When not practicing, she has a passion for dog rescue, enjoys cooking and spending time with her husband Corbin, and reading. With two rescue Beagles, Suggs desires to get involved with the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in the near future.
