Tuskegee Heirs Property & Wills Clinic

Tuskegee Heirs Property & Wills Clinic

If you are fortunate to own a home and/or other real property, you want to be assured that it is legally passed to your family and loved ones to avoid the creation of heirs property.

Most peoples’ homes are their largest asset and many homeowners will learn how to protect it from unintended consequences by having an estate plan or other legal documents that support the building of generational wealth.

A host of organizations and officials will convene to increase awareness about heirs property and it’s impact on communities across Alabama, Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 9 am – 2 pm.

This is a hybrid event hosted by Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3403 West Martin Luther King Hwy in Tuskegee and is free and open to the public.

Participants will receive free legal assistance and representation for wills, powers of attorney and health care directives. An experienced tax attorney will provide information on federal tax filing and how to avoid errors.

James E. Cooper, II., Macon County Judge of Probate is the keynote speaker  and will educate persons about probate court matters and procedures. Additional co-sponsors include:

  • Legal Services Alabama
  • Faulkner University Jones School of Law – Generational and Ancestral Property (GAP) Clinic under the supervision of Professor Kelly McTear
  • Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church
  • Maggie Street Community Development Corporation
  • Extension – Alabama A&M & Auburn University
  • Tuskegee University – Professor Robert Zabawa, Ph.d.
  • Senator Billy Beasley, Alabama District 28
  • Victory Land Casino
