Advocate of the Month – January 2018

By Michael Forton, Director of Advocacy

Our January 2018 Advocate of the Month is Pamela Jackson. Pam originally joined Legal Services Alabama as part of the Anniston Office but has worked in the Huntsville Office since June of 2009, where she currently serves as the Lead Attorney. Pam is one of LSA’s hardest working and most accomplished attorneys, and in January, she demonstrated the important difference a lawyer can make in the life of a low income person.

In one of Pam’s cases, she helped a client on Social Security facing terminal illness to deal with numerous creditors. Based on the client’s circumstances, Pam took the extra step to contact all of the client’s creditors when she contacted LSA. All of them agreed to waive the client’s debts. With Pam’s help, the client was able to focus on what really matters in a very difficult time in her life.

In another case, Pam was able to help a client seeking a divorce from her abusive spouse. In that case, the husband was incarcerated for sexually abusing her daughter. With Pam’s help, the client was able to take possession of the family home and make a fresh start.

Pam also helped three low income workers to protect their paycheck by having garnishments against them dismissed. With Pam’s help, these individuals were able to keep the funds they needed to support their families.

In January, Pam illustrated exactly how big a difference LSA can make in the lives of the people we serve, and she made us all proud doing it. Congratulations Pam, and keep up the good work!
