Virtual Pro Bono Road to Redemption Expungement Clinics – North Alabama

HUNTSVILLE – Legal Services Alabama (LSA) is expanding its Road to Redemption series of expungement clinics with a new virtual offering for residents of Madison, Limestone, Jackson, Marshall, Dekalb and Morgan counties.

LSA attorneys and pro bono volunteers will virtually provide free expungement services for people with certain misdemeanor charges.

Beginning February 22, the clinics will be scheduled on the fourth Wednesday of every month. Participants will need access to internet and an internet-connected device.

The LSA Road to Redemption expungement series has already served hundreds of clients in need of a criminal expungement in the Selma, Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery areas.

The new Huntsville clinic series is the first Road to Redemption clinic to be organized virtually. The series is sponsored by the LSA John Lewis Legal Fellowship program.

People seeking an expungement through this clinic series need to complete an online pre-screen intake form. LSA representatives will contact clients after they submit the pre-screen form to complete their intake and confirm their appointment window for the clinic.

Expungements are especially important during our current eviction crisis, as even minor criminal records can impact a person’s ability to find stable and quality housing.

Criminal backgrounds can also prevent people from finding steady employment, putting them further at risk of facing homelessness.

Attorneys interested in volunteering pro bono services at any of the virtual expungement clinics should contact John Lewis Legal Fellow, Tracy Kennie, at tkennie@alsp.org.
