A “Protection from Abuse Order” (PFA) is a no-contact order, basically a civil restraining order. PFA’s typically protect victims of domestic violence, harassment, stalking, or other forms of abuse.
The order may prevent the alleged abuser from contacting or approaching the victim. PFA’s may also include other things intended to ensure the safety and well-being of the person seeking protection. For example, the PFA may allow the victim to stay in the marital home, or it might award temporary custody.
If the abuser violates the PFA, the victim should always call the police.
This may be an additional criminal violation.
