LSA Recognizes Stacey Abrams with 2021 John Lewis Hope Award

Established in 2020, by Legal Services Alabama (LSA) the John Lewis Hope Award was bestowed on the late Congressman for his lifetime commitment to social justice.

This year’s recipient, Stacey Abrams, was chosen for her dedication to carrying on the legacy of Lewis’ social justice and political work. Abrams’ work with Fair Fight Action embodies Lewis’ lifetime work on behalf of equal voting rights.

Abrams will receive the award on May 5, 2021 when LSA will host its annual Justice, Fairness & Hope Awards virtual reception to raise funds to support the LSA John Lewis Fellowship Program. Established in 2019,  the Fellowship Program offers employment opportunities to recent law graduates with a passion for public interest legal advocacy to emulate Lewis’ social justice work in his native state of Alabama.

Michael Collins, Congressman Lewis’ longtime chief of staff, will present the award to Abrams. While the absence of Congressman Lewis is keenly felt by many, advocates like Abrams are positioned to usher in hope for continuing progress.

LSA’s Justice, Fairness & Hope Awards reception honors changemakers whose work embodies the LSA core principles of justice, fairness and hope.

This year’s Tommy Wells Justice Award will be presented by former ABA President Tommy Wells to Hon. Judge John England.

Last year’s recipient of the Pro Bono Fairness Award, Mary Margaret Bailey, partner in the Mobile law firm Frazer Greene will present this year’s Fairness Award  to Tom Methvin, Managing Partner of Beasley Allen for the firm’s longstanding commitment to pro bono.
