Call Center Intake Specialist—Elder Law Helpline

Legal Services Alabama (LSA), is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. As a non-profit law firm, our mission is to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty. LSA seeks applications from qualified persons for an Elder Law Helpline Intake Specialist.  This position will help implement goals of LSA’s Alabama Program for the Enhancement of Elder Legal Services (APEELS) project.  

Under the Call Center Managing Attorney’s supervision, the Intake Specialist will answer calls through the Elder Law Helpline and respond to online intakes designated through the project.  The Intake Specialist will complete applications and accurately record data into a case management system; provide assisted referrals; identify social and legal issues of clients; assist in meeting project goals, and work with partner agencies to meet client needs. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with non-profits or low income and elderly population preferred.  A high school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years’ experience in customer service, receptionist or similar position.  Computer proficiency and the ability to work in data base systems required. Bi-Lingual encouraged to apply.

Paralegal—Montgomery Central Office

LSA seeks applications from qualified paralegals for its Alabama Program for the Enhancement of Elder Legal Services (APEELS) project.  This is a full-time position located in our Montgomery Central Office.  

Under the APEELS Project Attorney’s supervision, the Paralegal will assist in providing direct legal services to older Alabamians.  The Paralegal will help implement, document and evaluate project goals; assist in coordinating and participate in community outreach clinics; assist in developing written materials for education and seminars; and engage with other service providers to meet the needs of clients or potential clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

A paralegal degree or the willingness to take and pass the paralegal certification within12 months of employment. Knowledge of the legal system, familiarity with legal software systems and Microsoft office computer skills. Demonstrated sensitivity towards low income population and elderly clients. Ability to work timely and effectively independently or as part of a team.  

Must be able to travel.

Coordinating Project Attorney—Dothan Alabama

LSA seeks applications from qualified attorneys for its Alabama Program for the Enhancement of Elder Legal Services (APEELS) project.  The APEELS Attorney will enhance and expand services to older persons in Alabama’s Wiregrass counties (Houston, Henry, Coffee, Dale, Covington, Butler, Barbour, Geneva).  The position will be located in a LSA’s Dothan Regional office.   

The Coordinating Project Attorney will provide a full range of direct legal services to benefit older Alabamians, coordinate and implement project goals, provide community education clinics, circuit ride to the rural service areas, develop and publish brochures, help supplement the services of pro bono attorneys and coordinate Elder Law Seminars.   Supervise project staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Admitted to practice in the State of Alabama or willing to take necessary steps to be admitted to Alabama bar within 6 months of employment.  Sensitivity towards low-income and older population.  Experience in legal aid services or related substantive areas.  Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

Spanish language proficiency desirable. 

Must be able to travel.

Managing Attorney—Selma, AL

LSA seeks to employ a Managing Attorney in Selma, Alabama.  The Managing Attorney will have the general responsibility for daily operations and supervision of the staff in the Selma Regional Office. The Managing Attorney will also be responsible for maintaining a caseload in LSA’s core areas, including consumer protection, eviction and foreclosure defense, protection of victims of domestic violence and public benefit cases.  The Managing Attorney will also promote the visibility of LSA within the communities covered by the office, and among the bar and judiciary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Admitted to the Alabama State Bar, five or more years legal experience or in non-profit or related substantive areas.  Computer proficiency is required.  Experience working with low-income population preferred.  Supervisory experience desirable.

Client Access Manager—Montgomery, Al
