Communications Coordinator—Montgomery, AL

Legal Services Alabama (LSA) is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. As a non-profit law firm, our mission is to serve low-income people by providing civil legal aid and by promoting collaboration to find solutions to problems of poverty. 

LSA seeks applications from qualified persons for a Communications Coordinator. This is a full-time position located at LSA’s headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama.  

Under the general supervision of the Director of Development, the Communications Coordinator provides high-level assistance to the Director of Development in communications to the community, LSA staff and Board.  The Communications Coordinator develops and produces publications, social media postings, brochures, newsletters, and news releases to define LSA identity to the staff, clients and broader community.  This position helps manage and expand donor lists and provides recognition of donors and staff, assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts.  This position requires flexibility, attention to detail and deadlines, organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative.  The Communications Coordinator will promote LSA’s mission, values, brand and principles within the regional office, the organization as a whole and the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, and/or journalism (print or broadcast).  Experience with non-profits preferred.  At least two (2) years’ experience in relevant field. Journalism and media communications experience preferred.  Experience in publications and reporting required.  Must be self-motivated and organized.  Ability to work timely and effectively; independently or as part of a team.  Must be able to travel.

IT Help Desk Analyst I

The IT Help Desk Analyst I will report to the IT Director. The IT Help Desk Analyst I will provide timely and reliable technical assistance and support to LSA Staff related computer systems, hardware and software. Answer queries on basic technical issues, run diagnostic programs, implement solutions. The IT Help Desk Analyst I will promote LSA’s mission, values and principles within the organization and the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor degree in IT or related field preferred but not required. Two or more years of related experience. Industry certifications preferred but not required. Ability to work timely and effectively, independently or as part of a team. Must be able to travel. Must be able to work remotely.

Paralegal–Selma, AL

Under the Managing Attorney’s supervision, the paralegal will participate in community outreach and assist in providing civil legal services in the areas of consumer protection, housing, unemployment compensation, family law, probate matters and other priorities established by the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS

A paralegal degree or the willingness to take and pass the paralegal certification within 12 months of employment. Knowledge of the legal system, familiarity with legal software systems and Microsoft Office computer skills. Demonstrates sensitivity towards low-income population and elderly clients. Ability to work timely and effectively, independently or as part of a team.

Staff Attorney—Montgomery, AL

Legal Services Alabama (LSA), is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. LSA seeks applications from qualified attorneys committed to supporting our mission. This is a full time position located in our Montgomery Regional Office.

The attorney will provide community outreach and civil legal representation to address the needs of domestic violence clients. Much of the legal work will focus on immediate safety needs of the client to include protection orders but the attorney will assist the client in other areas of legal work that include housing, consumer protection, education, custody, employment, public assistance needs, and other priorities established by the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Admitted to practice in the State of Alabama or willing to take necessary steps to be admitted to Alabama bar within 6 months of employment. Sensitivity towards low-income population. Experience in legal aid services or related substantive areas. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Spanish language proficiency desirable.

Paralegal—Montgomery Central Office

LSA seeks applications from qualified paralegals for its Alabama Program for the Enhancement of Elder Legal Services (APEELS) project.  This is a full-time position located in our Montgomery Central Office.  

Under the APEELS Project Attorney’s supervision, the Paralegal will assist in providing direct legal services to older Alabamians.  The Paralegal will help implement, document and evaluate project goals; assist in coordinating and participate in community outreach clinics; assist in developing written materials for education and seminars; and engage with other service providers to meet the needs of clients or potential clients.
