Pro Bono Manager - Birmingham or montgomery, alabama

Legal Services Alabama, Inc. (LSA), is one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama. LSA provides free, client-centered civil legal advocacy to low-income Alabamians and collaborates with others across the state and nation to find solutions to systemic issues caused by poverty and social justice inequities. 

The Pro Bono Manager will be responsible for building and supporting innovative programming designed to increase access to justice for LSA’s client communities and assist pro se litigants. The Pro Bono Manager will manage LSA’s Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) programs, assist in building volunteer lawyer pools, ensure the creation and upkeep of appropriate informational and marketing materials about PAI opportunities, close all PAI cases in a timely manner, recruit and supervise law students and volunteers, coordinate with the five VLP programs in Alabama and oversee the development of an annual PAI plan. The Pro Bono Manager will promote LSA’s mission, values, and principles within the organization and the community. 

The Pro Bono Manager position is based in either the LSA Birmingham office or the LSA Central office in Montgomery.

Qualifications: This position is an exciting opportunity for an attorney who is admitted to the Alabama Bar and who has five or more years of experience with a Legal Aid organization or related subject areas. The ideal candidate is passionate about serving low-income populations and has excellent communication skills as well as good judgment. The ability to train and supervise staff is required, as is the ability to set and meet deadlines. Preference is given to attorneys who are bilingual.

Staff Attorney – Birmingham, Alabama

The Staff Attorney will participate in a medical-legal partnership with Cahaba Medical Care, a Qualified Health Center. The Staff Attorney will rotate throughout Cahaba Medical Care’s Jefferson County sites to provide high-quality free legal representation for cases in domestic violence, public benefits, elder law, tax assistance, consumer protection, education, and housing. In addition to providing legal representation to patients, the attorney will address the holistic needs of the client and will address social, non-medical determinants of health that prevent the patient’s ability to get well and return to social and economic stability. The Staff Attorney will provide information and resources to clients about the Family Medical Leave Act, job protections, and post-treatment benefit eligibility.

Domestic Violence Staff Attorney – Montgomery, Alabama

Administrative Assistant - Huntsville, Alabama

This is a full-time position based in the LSA Huntsville Regional Office.

The Administrative Assistant will perform administrative duties in a fast-paced law office and communicate frequently with community members and clients. The Administrative Assistant will report directly to the Managing Attorney.

Qualifications: This position is an exciting opportunity for someone with a high school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years of experience in customer service, secretarial, office, or another related field. Computer proficiency and the ability to work in database systems are required. The applicant must have the ability to become a licensed notary public. Preference will be given to those who are bilingual and who have experience with nonprofits. The ideal candidate would have a passion for serving low-income communities.
